SAF OPAL Starters is a products manufacturing division of Brock Solutions, one of North America's most successful and technically skilled Automation and Drives engineering companies.
Over a 30-year period SAF OPAL Starters has established itself as a market leader in the development, manufacture, and distribution of solid-state soft starters.
Incorporated in 1976 as Saftronics (SAF), the early years of operation were based in Guelph, and then Stratford. In 1987 Sutherland-Schultz Limited acquired SAF's Canadian shares, and the company was moved to Kitchener. As part of Sutherland-Schultz, SAF evolved from a leading standard drives manufacturer to a fully integrated drive systems engineering firm. When Stork (a multi-national company) purchased Sutherland-Schultz in 1992, then president Rick Brock bought 3 segments of the business, including SAF. This formed the nucleus of the Brock family of companies. Since 1992, the company has grown into a full-scale automation engineering firm employing approximately 250 engineers, technical specialists, and sales and marketing professionals.
